Record-Breaking 18,239-Pound Chocolate Sculpture

Gourmet dessert and pastry provider Qzina Specialty Foods has recently taken the title of the World’s Largest Chocolate Sculpture in the Guinness World Records with its massive 18,239-pound structure. It is more than 7,500 pounds greater than the last record holder in 2010. The record-breaking chocotecture (chocolate + architecture) is inspired by Mayan temples because of the impact the ancient civilization had on the development of chocolate.

Qzina’s chocolate sculpture is meticulously constructed and designed by Corporate Pastry Chef Francois Mellet and Best Craftsman of France Stephane Treand to mimic the intricate details of the historical architecture, from the number of steps and panels that reflect the Mayan calendar to its proportional size. The sculpture stands 6-feet high with a base that measures 10-feet by 10-feet, which makes it one-thirteenth the size of the real thing. You can see the enormous and delicious temple in person at Qzina’s Irvine, California branch starting on June 4th until December 21, 2012, which is when the world Mayan calendar ends.
