The mobile photo-sharing app Instagram has now a worth of US$1 billion this month, thanks to Facebook. But how did it progress to its current position?
Infographic designers Visually traced the journey of the photo app, since it started 17 months ago, in an infographic.
In the infographic ‘Instagram: The Timeline’, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger raised US$500,000 to fund their app in March 2010.
In November 2010, the app was released in Apple’s app store.
In December 2010, the Instagram community hit 1 million users.
Hashtags were then added in January 2011—for people to discover photos or each other.
In June 2011, the number of users hit 5 million.
In August 2011, the 150 millionth photo uploaded onto the app.
A month thereafter, live filters, tilt-shift effects, and high-res photo options were added.
In September 2011, the community hit 10 million Instagram users.
In April this year, the app released Android version of its app, which hit 1 million downloads in a day; and got the app 30 million users altogether—which then brings us to Facebook buying Instagram for US$1 billion.
Will there be ‘The Instagram Movie’ next…
